Divorce & Dissolution of Marriage

Filing for divorce is not simply paperwork. It is the legal event that activates the court’s authority over your marriage. From that moment forward, financial decisions, asset transfers, and parenting arrangements are all evaluated within a defined legal framework. Understanding what triggers, what it means, and what comes next is the foundation of a strategic divorce.

Florida is a no-fault divorce state, which means neither party needs to prove wrongdoing. What the process does require is a thorough accounting of your assets, debts, and family circumstances, followed by either a negotiated settlement or a trial before a judge.

What Dissolution Can Address

  • Identification, valuation, and distribution of marital assets and debts
  • Segregation of non-marital (separate) assets
  • Alimony: entitlement, amount, and duration
  • Parenting plans and timesharing schedules for minor children
  • Child support calculations including healthcare and childcare costs
  • Unique family circumstances that require individualized solutions

How Your Divorce Concludes

Your case will resolve in one of two ways. The first is a Marital Settlement Agreement, where you and your spouse reach a mutual agreement on all issues, which is then approved by the court. The second is trial, where a judge reviews the evidence and enters a final judgment. Our goal is always to reach the best possible outcome for you, whether that happens at the negotiating table or in the courtroom.

Did you know?

Everything is split 50/50 in Florida.

Many people assume Florida requires an equal division of all marital assets and debts.

Florida follows equitable distribution, not equal distribution.

The court divides marital property fairly, not necessarily equally, based on the circumstances of each case.
